Stress and conflict are part of child
development and parenting. But parents may face particular challenges
with their children for which support, information and guidance is useful.
Helping parents to help their children or to strengthen family life
is often an important part of ongoing therapy with parents. I have worked extensively
with single parents. You may also call me for parenting guidance even
if you are not in therapy. Frequency of appointments is flexible.

I provide support and counseling for new
parents or parents making an adjustment to the birth of another baby.
Mothers and fathers sometimes enter into parenthood during personally
hard times. These circumstances might include depression (during or
after pregnancy) or stressful circumstance. Even though anxiety with
a new baby is normal, the social pressure to be joyful can make it hard
for moms and dads to seek help for any reason. Babies who are living
with a parent who is struggling emotionally may suffer. I have experience
helping parents with mental health concerns, including pre and post-partum
depression.
Children are born with individual differences. Some of the individual
differences that parents may notice with an infant or toddler have to
do with sensitivity, intelligence, intensity, flexibility, sociability,
level of activity, and ability to feel calm. I help parents to expand
their empathy and understanding of their children so that development
can be facilitated in a positive way.
